New Group!

Thursday  July 9,

Well the pictures I took yesterday with Elder Petersen's phone are not coming through to my email. Don't know why.

This is a very small group with only 3 handcarts!  I told them that if my family were here, we would need at least 5 handcarts!  So funny, but it is nice to have such a small group. There are 35 total.
The other treks have anywhere from 200-600 to their treks, so these little ones are fun as you actually get to know everyone.
They are not even going to get started this morning until 10 am, so i thought I would write in here. We rode the 4x4 most of the day yesterday. It was a good day!
We are about ready to leave, so hopefully I will have some pictures at the end of today.
This is the only picture that came through and it is of them going over a high hill. I love the expanse of the country here. and the solitude.  it is wonderful!

Sister Marjorie Hinckley's sisters

We had a fireside tonight with Sister Hinckley's sisters. These woman are so funny,  They said that when Marjorie married Gorden B Hinckley that they were fine with that until he became the Prophet!  They are a hoot!
This grave marker that they brought us to look at was found in Iowa by a sheep herder. If finally found it's way to the Hinckley family after much hardship. It is the grave marker of the baby sister of their grandmother. They figure it was torn out of a wagon from the inside as it had big nails that had pans etc hanging on it. They told of the story of their grandmother who was eleven at the time her baby sister died. She was found missing from the wagon train and the dad went back to find her sitting by the grave refusing to go with them. She was worried about the wolves digging up her baby sister . So they put rocks all around it and then sage brush and burned the sage brush so the wolves couldn't smell the body. This marker made it all so real and to feel that 150 year old wood just made it more real for me. Their grandmother walked across the plains and lost all her toes and almost her feet. They hurt her all her life. The sacrifice of these pioneers and what they went through is astounding. They just wanted to be free to live like they wanted and to worship how they wanted. They were willing to die for that right. Amazing.

More Picture of our 4th of July Trip

The mountains had these strange formations at the top and the only thing I could see from them is pioneers a d handcarts!

Last Day of Trek 4

July 2, 2015

Very busy week!  We didn't get home until 10:45 last night. Our group had a hoe down last night and those kids did not want to quit dancing!  They get their second wind around 9 pm when the sun goes down.
They will be getting up this morning late and leave this after noon around 1pm. They were a great group. Had one man have to leave and go to the hospital because of heat exhaustion and he was one of the medics. If you don't drink enough water, you pay for it
I drove the 4x4 quite a bit this week and Elder Petersen walked alot. Proud of him. It has been way hot!
WE will be heading out tomorrow to Woodruff for the 4th of July Parade and then onto the Grand Tetons. We are just too close not to go see them.
Just haven't had time to enter in this blog because by the time we get back at night, i am exhausted.
and we leave here at 7 am.  here are a few photos of this past week.

This is Sister Kennedy. She is fun to work with. There are 10 missionary couples and two couples are assigned each trek. So we work with a different couple every week. They are from Robertson, Wyoming which isn't very far from here. We have been to their home. Brother Kennedy is quite the hunter. He has hunted in Alaska and has a buffalo and bear rug in their home. This is the perfect mission for him!

This is a steep hill and the kids would have to turn their carts around and hold onto it from the back so it wouldn't get away from them.

This is Brother and Sister Walkenhorst.  He was one of the leaders on this trek.  When i first heard his name, I called him Walking horse. and thought he had Indian heritage. But it is German. and is one word. I was calling after him once and couldn't exactly his name, and called him Riding Horse. He turned around and knew he was the one being sought after. So funny, Such a unique name.  Very nice couple. WE bought a sprayer and filled it with water and he would take it and spray all the kids,
