Last day of Trek number 2!!
Well, Elder Petersen is sleeping. we are through with the second trek! This group was from Clinton, Utah
This group was under the direction of Elder and Sister Yates. All the missionaries are in charge of 4 different treks. So next week we work with Elder and Sister Peart. then the next week we will be in charge.
There are 5 different treks running at once. and there are usually 1000-1200 youth here during the week.
You hardly if ever see the other treks going on as the ranch is so massive.
It was great working with Elder and Sister Yates. They are from Virginia. Very fun couple.
Elder Yates and Elder Petersen get along so well and are alot alike! I am so surprised that so many ma's and pa's want to come back here and serve a mission. It is a great mission and very physical. I am so sad that I still can't walk with the kids. So i am either in the support truck or the Ranger 4x4. I would like to be able to walk, but I"m not better. getting that way, but not yet.
I have been thinking of all the things that I have learned. and this week, i have learned that the church is the same wherever you go. It is nice to hear that these kids are hearing and learning the same thing that I hear in our ward and Stake. I have also learned that these pioneers were very valiant and strong. I feel there presence every day here.

2nd Week, 2nd trek
Today was our second week of treks here. We have 300 in our group. They are divided up into companies.
It was hotter today, but since there was a great breeze, it was still bearable.
funny thing happened. WE were out riding in the 4x4 (Elder Petersen was trying to show me tomorrow's trail) anyway, we rounded a corner and there was a big 750 gallon water buffalo jack knifed right in the road. Elder Jensen was there with the driver (a woman that was driving and who had never driven a truck pulling a trailer) Elder Petersen got out and was able to get that water buffalo out. He really is the only missionary here that could have gotten that big ol water buffalo out. What a tender mercy.

Julie Rogers fireside
These pictures are of Julie Rogers. She is a beautiful artist and paints a lot of the pioneers.
We had a fireside tonight and she had all these paintings that she showed us. She would tell us the stories of these pioneers and of all her spiritual experience in painting these beautiful renditions. I have never experienced a more spiritual fireside. These pioneers were so valiant because they had strong enough testimonies to take them through hard things. We talked about why the Lord didn't temper the elements for their sakes. she read a quote from James E Faust which is:
On Suffering.
"We wonder why a kind and merciful God did not temper the elements to spare them from their profound agony. I think I have found the answer to my own satisfaction. I may be wrong, but I believe their lives were consecrated to a higher purpose through their suffering and their example. Their love of the Savior was burned deep into their souls and into the souls of their children and their chiildren's children, and it will be so forever. The motivation for their lives came from a true conversion, to the very center of their souls."
I know this to be true. and why the Lord wants us to be here.
I love this church and feel so blessed to be here and experience the spirits of those special pioneers and feel them near me tonight. I hope whoever reads this will go and purchase the book.

Last day/ Elder Petersen leading them into staging and home!
So proud of Elder Petersen. He took them from camp into the staging area they started at! That was quite a walk and the kids were so excited to get there! The support team was there to greet them and sang"Come, Come Ye Saints" to them as they passed into the gate! another amazing and spiritual day! But we are so tired tonight! But it is a good tired and we met some really neat people this past week! All in all I must admit that Tyler and Toni were right! We should have gone with them last year! We are having a great time!

This is the Stake President talking to the kids. At this point some of their family has been pulled out and are dead. This was to help the kids feel how the pioneers must have felt when their loved ones died.
